We thank our veterans and attendees for joining us during the Veterans Day Ceremony.
This event is a joint effort between the City of Auburndale and the City of Lake Alfred. Mayor Tim Pospichal of Auburndale and Mayor Nancy Daley of Lake Alfred were in attendance along with members of their city commissions.
We also thank our speakers Shawn Sherrouse and Major General H.D. Jake Polumbo for joining us today to share their stories and encouragement to support the United States Armed Forces.
Today is a special time to reach out inside the local community and we encourage our citizens to show your support for veterans and those who serve our Country.
Tomorrow we celebrate veterans nationwide, and encourage our citizens to participate locally to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our veterans. As a part of our Veterans Day Ceremony, the City of Auburndale and the City of Lake Alfred have invited two outstanding local veterans to speak at the event.
Major General H.D. Jake Polumbo will be the keynote speaker tomorrow. He is retired from the United States Air Force after serving for 34 years. His resume expands across many opportunities, serving in strategic planning and task force management. He has also distinguished himself as an accomplished command pilot, having logged over 4,000 flight hours in all models of the F-16 and being the first and only Air Force general officer to fly the U-2 reconnaissance aircraft in combat, completing 21 missions in Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Jake is currently a founding partner and senior consultant for the Two Blue Aces consulting firm.
Shawn Sherrouse will also speak at the event. He has served as a Sergeant in the United States Marines from 1989 to 1997. He was deployed to Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Shawn is the current Deputy City Manager for the City of Lakeland and is a former Assistant City Manager with the City of Auburndale.
We look forward to hearing these two distinguished veterans speak tomorrow at the Veterans Day Ceremony in the Downtown City Park starting at 11:00am.
